These Include

Pre-IVF Care: helps prepare your body, in advance of you commencing your IVF drug regime this stage can be unto 3-4 months prior to you having your IVF cycle.  This is included to maximise ovarian and uterine blood flow. Treatment also works on the nervous system to help your mind and body to relax. As you know IVF can be a very stressful time and in Chinese medicine stress ban be a massive hinderance to a successful IVF cycle.  Focus is on optimal chances of conception. At this stage, your therapy will also address any underlying or longer-term health issues you have which may, or may not, be directly related to your fertility issues.

During Medication Phase Care: at this stage we work to support your body when you are taking the drugs associated with IVF. Most often these drugs will aim to ‘down-regulate’ your ovaries – which means they stop your ovaries from naturally ovulating. At this time it is hoped your body has several maturing follicles in your ovaries. Many women report feeling anxious, bloated and nauseated at this stage of their IVF cycle. My therapies strive to reduce the side effects of the medication and support your Fertility Specialist’s work with the precise selection of acupuncture points to assist with follicular development.  Again here the focus of this part of the treatment will increase the blood flow to you ovaries and uterus.

Transfer Care: After you have gone in for your egg pick up and had your eggs fertilised, no more than two are transferred back into your uterus. Studies have shown acupuncture before and after your transfer can increase the success rates of a positive pregnancy test. My recommendation is to prepare your body for this day by having treatment prior to commencing your IVF cycle.

Post Transfer Care: once your eggs have been returned to your uterus you will then have to wait somewhere around two weeks (or less than this, depending on the approach your IVF doctor has taken with). Many women report feel this to be the most anxious time of the cycle.  I have found continuing acupuncture therapy during this time to be most useful in helping your body to manage this stressful period.

There have been numerous studies showing that acupuncture enhances IVF success rates some up to 40% more than just using the IVF/ ART alone.  This is an important figure as many fertility clinics in Australia have an average success of 30%.
